Marcelo Dantas Tavares de Melo

Dear colleagues,

With great honor, I assume the position of editor-in-chief of Arquivos Brasileiros de Cardiologia (ABC) Imagem Cardiovascular, the official publication of the Cardiovascular Imaging Department of the Brazilian Society of Cardiology, for the next biennium. The journal is part of the ABC Family and indexed in the Lilacs and Latindex databases. Our mission is to publish high-quality material in all areas of cardiovascular imaging, including echocardiography, magnetic resonance imaging, computed tomography, and nuclear imaging.

In recent years, thanks to the efforts of my predecessors – particularly the brilliant performance of my predecessor, Dr. Daniela do Carmo Rassi Frota – the journal underwent important transformations, gaining visibility and consolidating the path toward indexing in the main databases, such as the Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO), and, in the future, PubMed®.

For this progress to continue, we rely on the continuous support and effort of all associates and the academic community to maintain consistent high-quality submissions, especially original articles.

Our journal publishes the following types of manuscripts: original research article, review articles (also including the categories “What do cardiologists expect?” and “My approach to”), point of view, brief communication, letter to the editor, editorial, mini-editorial, and systematic analysis and meta-analysis. Case reports and cardiovascular images are also encouraged for publication, as they provide information on the basic mechanisms responsible for cardiovascular disease and highlight the potential role of noninvasive imaging.

We have a wide national and international editorial board consisting of members of recognized competence in addition to a qualified team of associate editors, including Alexandre Costa Souza (professional defense and training of the echocardiographer), Karen Saori Shiraishi Sawamura and Laura Mercer-Rosa (pediatric echocardiography), Leonardo Sara da Silva and Rhanderson Miller Nascimento Cardoso (cardiovascular computed tomography), Marco S. Lofrano Alves (innovation and artificial intelligence), Rafael Lopes (nuclear medicine), Simone Nascimento dos Santos (vascular echocardiography), Tiago Senra Garcia dos Santos (cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging), and Viviane Tiemi Hotta and Cristiane Singulane (adult echocardiography).

Online publication is permanent, and a new issue is released every 3 months. No fees are charged for submission or publication. Authors who wish to submit their articles to ABC Imagem Cardiovascular must follow its publication guidelines and submit their manuscripts through its online submission system.

The site is completely redesigned, uses research tools, enables immediate publication, and provides direct links to social media.

I end this message with my special thanks to our current president of the Department of Cardiovascular Imaging, Dr. Silvio Barberato, for his trust, and I invite all colleagues in the area to send their contributions and studies to ABC Imagem Cardiovascular.
